Community members are invited to make a difference by assisting planting trees on Saturday, Oct. 25.
At least 75 local volunteers are needed to help plant trees in the historic Chippiannock Cemetery on Make A Difference Day. In just a few short hours, Quad Citians can experience the feel-good benefits of volunteering with this quick and easy opportunity. Those age 12 and over can work together to showcase the volunteer spirit working throughout the Quad Cities.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers are needed to work in groups to plant 75 trees at Chippiannock Cemetery. These trees will help replace the more than 130 trees that were lost in the July 21 storms. Groups will be taught proper tree-planting techniques to ensure the trees planted will thrive in their new environment. Lunch will be served to volunteers by Modern Woodmen youth service club members.
Modern Woodmen, Rock Island, coordinated this volunteer opportunity as a part of its sponsorship of "Plant A Tree Quad Cities," and is donating up to 125 trees to local areas where trees were lost in July. Nearly 1,000 people voted online at wqad.com and the location chosen to receive 75 trees was Chippiannock Cemetery at 12th Street and 29th Avenue in Rock Island. Black Hawk State Historic Site and John Deere Road were also chosen to receive 25 trees apiece.
To volunteer, register online at www.modern-woodmen.org. Contact the "Plant A Tree Quad Cities Registration Desk" with any questions at 309-786-6481 ext. 7427.
