Operation Medicine Cabinet yields nearly 11,000 lbs of material

(DAVENPORT, Iowa) —Operation Medicine Cabinet, a three-day event allowing residents the opportunity to safely dispose of medications, sharps, mercury thermometers and sensitive documents, generated 10,847 pounds of material. (QUAD CITIES, IA/IL) — Volunteers at the fifth annual Xstream Cleanup on Saturday, August 16 removed 142,566 pounds of debris from area waterways, illegal dumping sites and flood-ridden areas. Quad City Enviro- Kids Summer Program

Quad City area children entering 3rd-5th grade this fall are invited to attend Enviro-Kids, a brand new environmental education program that will meet five Saturdays throughout the summer and end with a Friday night family camp-out in August.

“The purpose of Enviro-Kids is to teach youth all the ways they can have fun while being outdoors,” said Paula Mullin, education specialist for the iLivehere program.

Green Revolution

Living Lands & Waters hosted the Green Revolution, a conference for area high school students interested in the environment, on February 10 at Stoney Creek Inn, Moline. Nearly 150 Quad City area students attended and heard presentations from experts on topics such as: Green Building, Energy Efficiency, Water Quality and Waste Reduction. AMPS Receive Governor's Volunteer Award

Area Maintenance Persons (AMPS) of Davenport, IA received the Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award for their daily efforts of picking up litter throughout the city. AMPS is a group of 151 Davenport residents age 50+ who pick up litter during their daily activities. A reception was held in their honor at the Davenport Police Station Community Room and City Council recognized them during their meeting on November 12, 2008. Continue
